Highway 36 Project Resumes

July 19, 2011 - Central Eastern Colorado/CDOT Region 1 - ADAMS & ARAPAHOE COUNTIES – Paving operations on U.S. 36 between the Watkins area and Bennett have resumed after the project was suspended on July 1 for harvest.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) expected a higher number of farm vehicles to travel through the area but harvest traffic never materialized due to excessive rain over the last couple of weeks.

Flaggers again are alternating eastbound and westbound traffic through the work zone, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, so delays should be expected.  A reduced 35 mph speed limit also will be effect and vehicles wider than 12 feet will not be allowed to travel through the project area during work hours.

In addition to asphalt paving, remaining work on Highway 36 includes new signing, seeding and striping between Interstate 70 (Airpark Road) and Bennett (mile 76.4 - 89).

A new timeframe for this season’s harvest is unknown but the project will be suspended again when farm traffic begins increasing through the work zone.

The project is scheduled for completion in August 2011.
