Guardrail Project Underway Near Colorado City

July 27, 2011 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - PUEBLO COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is installing median guardrail and cable rail at various locations along Interstate 25 to improve safety in the Colorado City area.

Left lane closures up to one mile are in place on northbound and southbound I-25, between mile 71 (near Graneros Road) and mile 78 (four miles north of Colorado City), from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.  During those hours, the speed limit is reduced to 65 mph and vehicles wider than 15 feet are not allowed to travel through the work zone.

The project is scheduled for completion in September 2011.

“New guard and cable rail in the median area will help to keep errant vehicles from crossing over into the opposite lane of traffic and possibly causing a severe accident,” says CDOT Traffic Engineer Ajin Hu.  “Guardrail can also enhance safety by keeping vehicles away from roadside hazards like trees, ditches and signs.”

The $515,000 project is contracted to Adarand Constructors Inc., of Colorado Springs.
