Crews to Realign Westbound Arapahoe Road Near Parker Road Tonight

July 27, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - ARAPAHOE COUNTY – Tonight, July 27th, weather permitting, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will realign westbound Arapahoe Road to the south in order to reconstruct the lanes for final alignment.

To complete the work, there will be various single and double lane closures on westbound Arapahoe Road near Parker Road from 7 p.m. tonight until 5:30 a.m. on Thursday.

“The realignment of westbound Arapahoe Road is another important milestone for this project,” said CDOT Project Engineer Ed Bullard.  “With the new alignment, we will be able reconstruct the rest of Arapahoe Road and prepare for the realignment of southbound Parker Road onto the new bridge.”

The new alignment will be in place by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday and will provide two through lanes on westbound Arapahoe Road east of Parker Road as well as one left turn lane from westbound Arapahoe Road to southbound Parker Road.  This alignment will be in place for approximately two months.

In addition, the ramp from westbound Arapahoe Road to northbound Parker Road will be closed starting at 7 p.m. tonight for approximately four weeks. Motorists on westbound Arapahoe Road can turn left onto Lewiston Way and continue to the new northbound Parker Road ramp.

Delays are possible tonight and alternate routes are advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” In addition, motorists should pay attention to variable message signs and roadway signs since the configuration of westbound Arapahoe Road will be different.

The next major milestone for the project will be moving southbound Parker Road onto the new bridge.  This is tentatively scheduled to take place in late August or early September 2011.

Hamon Constructors, Inc. is the contractor for this $32 million project, which should be complete by the end of November 2011.
