Northbound Parker Road Traffic To Be Realigned Onto New Bridge

June 28, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - ARAPAHOE COUNTY – June 29th, weather permitting, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will realign northbound Parker Road onto the new bridge over Arapahoe Road and open the ramp from eastbound Arapahoe Road to southbound Parker Road.

In addition, the ramp from eastbound Arapahoe Road to northbound Parker Road will become operational, eliminating the triple-left turn lanes currently in place.  To complete the traffic realignment, there will be various single lane closures on eastbound Arapahoe Road and northbound Parker Road from 7 p.m. to approximately 1 a.m.

“Come Thursday morning, all of the ramps at the new intersection will be open and northbound Parker Road will be free-flowing over Arapahoe Road,” said CDOT Project Engineer Ed Bullard.  “With these changes, it will be extremely important for motorists approaching the intersection to slow down and pay attention to the directional signs.”

Since the ramp from eastbound Arapahoe Road to northbound Parker Road will eliminate the triple-left turn lanes, motorists will have to access the ramp, which is located on the east side of the interchange, from the right lane.  Below are lane assignments for eastbound Arapahoe Road as you approach Parker Road:

  • Left lane- This lane will allow motorists to continue east on Arapahoe Road
  • Middle lane- This lane will allow motorists to either continue east on Arapahoe Road or take the ramp to northbound Parker Road
  • Right lane- This lane will allow motorists to access the ramp to northbound Parker Road (east side of interchange) or the ramp to southbound Parker Road (west side of interchange)

“After the changes tomorrow night, the majority of the traffic movements at the intersection will be in their final configuration,” added Bullard.  “All of the improvements will enhance safety and mobility, providing relief at this busy intersection.  The final realignment, which will place southbound Parker Road onto the new bridge, will likely occur in late July or early August 2011.”
