I-70 Right Lane Closures West of Fruita

June 6, 2011 - Northwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 3 - High water at MP 16.7, crews monitoring bridge.

GRAND JUNCTION – The Colorado Department of Transportation maintenance crews closed the right (outside) lane of WESTBOUND I-70 at mile point 16.7 west of Fruita this weekend due to high water under the bridge. They anticipate closing the EASTBOUND right lane as well later on this afternoon. I-70 passes over the Colorado River here, in an area known as Skipper’s Island.

The right-lane closure will remain in place, 24/7, until the water recedes. Crews are monitoring this area full-time. There is a backhoe on site to help crews remove any debris in the event river debris should impact the bridge girder (on the westbound side). Should water levels rise further, there is a possibility that CDOT will close both westbound lanes. Notice will be sent at that time, detailing all impacts to travel and any alternate routes that may be necessary.

Crews greatly appreciate motorists going Slow for the Cone Zone! For information about this or other CDOT projects, the public may log on to www.cotrip.org or call 511 from anywhere in the state.
