Berthoud Pass Closure
June 27, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - GRAND COUNTY – U.S. 40 over Berthoud Pass is expected to remained closed until this afternoon after a slide today at about 6 a.m. spread rocks, trees and water across the highway, about seven miles east of Winter Park.
Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) crews have cleared most of the debris from the roadway except for a large boulder the size of a pick-up truck (8 feet by 10 feet – approximately 16 tons) that is blocking the westbound lane. Equipment is on the way to the site to break up the boulder.
A work zone will be created around the site in order to open Berthoud Pass to traffic this afternoon, with traffic reduced from three to two lanes thorough the area.
The detour route to and from the eastern Grand County area is State Highway 9 and U.S. 40 via Silverthorne and Kremmling.
CDOT will send additional updates as they become available.
