Surface Improvement Project on Highway 12

May 23, 2011 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - HUERFANO COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be chip sealing State Highway (SH) 12 near La Veta next week.

On Tuesday, May 31, and Wednesday, June 1, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., flaggers will be alternating traffic at various locations of SH 12, beginning just south of La Veta and continuing south 5 ½ miles. Delays up to 15 minutes should be expected.

Motorists are advised to observe the reduced speed limits posted through the project area due to the small, loose rocks prevalent in chip seal resurfacing areas.  Sweepers also will be in operation during work hours and continuing, if necessary, after chip sealing is complete.

Chip sealing is a preventative maintenance operation, extending a highway’s effective surface life three to five years.
