Resurfacing Underway on US 285 South of Poncha Pass

May 27, 2011 - Southwestern Colorado/CDOT Region 5 - No work will be done over Memorial Day holiday weekend – Friday through Tuesday.

SAGUACHE COUNTY – The Colorado Department of Transportation began a project on May 24 to resurface a 7.3-mile section of US 285 from the summit of Poncha Pass (MP 119.0) south to MP 111.6. This project consists of hot asphalt pavement overlay that will greatly improve the driving surface on this stretch of highway. The work will also include shouldering, guardrail adjustment, seeding, mulching and striping. The project was contracted to A & S Construction of Canon City for $2.06 million and will be completed in late June.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS: Work will be done Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, and until 3 PM on Fridays. There is a 12-foot width restriction during work hours. Motorists will encounter single-lane, alternating traffic during work hours, and travel delays may exceed 10 minutes depending upon traffic volumes.
