Fiber Optic Project Underway Next Week

April 12, 2011 - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - FOUNTAIN – A Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) project to connect future variable message signs and traffic cameras in the south Colorado Springs area begins on Monday, April 18.

Work consists of placing conduit and installing fiber optic line and pull boxes in the median and along the shoulder of U.S. 85 between Interstate 25 in Fountain and Las Vegas Street at the south end of Colorado Springs.  Work also includes inserting fiber optic cable into existing conduit along State Highway 16 between Syracuse Street and I-25, and foundation work for a future fiber optic connection facility.

Drivers can expect single lane and left turn lane closures at various locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Only minor delays are expected.

The $707,000 project, contracted to American Directional Boring of St. Louis, MO., is scheduled for completion in June 2011.
