Daytime Bridge Closure on 9th Street This Week

April 27, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Southeastern Colorado/CDOT Region 2 - CAŇON CITY – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will be closing the 9th Street Bridge over the Arkansas River (State Highway 115) to traffic on Friday, April 29, for bridge deck repairs, weather permitting.

Beginning at 8 a.m., and continuing until 4 p.m., 9^th Street will be closed to through traffic between Griffin Avenue and Royal Gorge Boulevard (U.S. 50). Northbound traffic will detour west on Griffin, and north on 4^th Street to Royal Gorge Boulevard. Southbound traffic will use the same detour, in reverse, from Royal Gorge Boulevard.

CDOT needs to close the bridge to install a new expansion joint across the roadway. Since expansion joints allow bridges to expand and contract, and avoid structural damage, replacing the joints periodically extends the life of the bridge.

Motorists are reminded to please Slow for the Cone Zone, stay alert and pay attention to and obey all work zone/advisory signs and flaggers.
