Bridge Expansion Joint Work to Close Ramp From Southbound I-225 to Parker Road This Weekend

April 8, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY REMINDER - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - AURORA – Starting at 9 p.m. tonight, April 8th and continuing until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, April 11th, weather permitting, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close the ramp from southbound I-225 to southbound Parker Road for bridge expansion joint and concrete repairs.

Throughout the weekend, motorists on southbound I-225 can exit at Iliff Avenue and travel east to Chambers Road.  Once on Chamber Road, travel south to Hampden Avenue and take Hampden Avenue west to Parker Road.  If motorists miss the Iliff Avenue exit, they can exit onto Yosemite Street and return to northbound I-225 for access to southbound Parker Road.

The ramp work is part of a concrete rehabilitation and bridge repair project on Parker Road between Peoria Street and E-470.  The project will repair or replace approximately 760 concrete slabs along eight miles of Parker Road and repair the bridges over the Cherry Creek Spillway, Piney Creek and Vaughn Way.  The mechanically stabilized earth wall at the Nine Mile Park N Ride Station will also be repaired.

The expansion joint repairs are complete on northbound and southbound Parker Road over Piney Creek as well as southbound Parker Road over Vaughn Way and the Cherry Creek Spillway.  Work began this week to repair the expansion joints on northbound Parker Road over Vaughn Way and the Cherry Creek Spillway, which could cause major delays on northbound Parker Road as well as Hampden Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

While the expansion joint work is underway, there will be several small bumps at both ends of the bridge that is being worked on.  These bumps are steel plates that are placed on the roadway during non-work hours so traffic can travel on the road.  The plates can then be easily removed when work resumes.  Once the expansion joint work is complete at a location, the bumps will be removed.

Hamon Contractors, Inc. is the contractor of this $2.3 million project, which should be complete by the end of July 2011.
