Paving Operations to Cause Delays on University Boulevard at C-470 This Weekend
“We will continue the concrete removal and replacement at the interchange this weekend, which is a fairly long process,” said CDOT Project Engineer George Warda. “Once we remove the existing concrete, we can pour the new concrete and then let it cure for 12 to 18 hours until it reaches strength. While the concrete is curing, motorists will not see any visible work taking place, but the closures are still necessary so the concrete can cure properly.”
To complete the work, the following lane closures will be in place:
- Eastbound C-470 to Northbound University Boulevard: The ramp from eastbound C-470 to northbound University Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Detour: Motorists on eastbound C-470 will exit at Broadway and take County Line Road east to University Boulevard
- Southbound University Boulevard at C-470: One lane of southbound University Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
- Southbound University Boulevard to Eastbound C-470: The left turn lane from southbound University Boulevard to eastbound C-470 will be completely closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Detour: Motorists on southbound University Boulevard can take Dad Clark Drive west to Broadway where access to eastbound C-470 is available.
Delays are expected throughout the weekend and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.
This work is part of a safety improvement project in three locations on University Boulevard and Wadsworth Boulevard. The project will remove and replace deteriorating concrete at University Boulevard and C-470 and University Boulevard and Dry Creek Road. In addition, the traffic signal at Wadsworth Boulevard and Coal Mine Avenue will be upgraded.
