Bridge Work for Central Park Boulevard Work to Cause Delays on I-70 and I-270 Next Week

March 22, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER — Next week, Sunday, March 13th through Saturday, March 19th, crews will be conducting median barrier and bridge work on I-70 between Quebec Street and Havana Street as part of the Central Park Boulevard interchange project.

The work will require double lanes closures on I-70 during the evening hours as well as single lane closures on I-270.

Throughout the week, motorists can expect the following lane closures, weather permitting:

  • Eastbound and Westbound I-70 between Quebec Street and Havana Street: Sunday through Thursday, two lanes of eastbound and westbound I-70 will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the following day.  On Friday and Saturday, two lanes of eastbound and westbound I-70 will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day.
  • Eastbound I-270 between Quebec Street and I-70: Monday through Thursday, one lane of eastbound I-270 will be closed each night from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day.  In addition, one lane of eastbound I-270 will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Major delays are expected and alternate routes are advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Most fines for infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.

This interchange improvement project constructs a full interchange at I-70 and Central Park Boulevard, which is located between Havana Street and Quebec Street.  The project will construct all ramps connecting Central Park Boulevard with eastbound and westbound I-70 and I-270.

SEMA Construction, Inc. is the contractor of this $47.2 million project being funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as well as the City and County of Denver.  The City and County of Denver is providing primary construction oversight, with cooperation and additional oversight by the Colorado Department of Transportation.  The interchange will be open to traffic by early October 2011.
