Bridge Deck Pour to Close Arapahoe Road at Parker Road Saturday

March 24, 2011 - TRAFFIC ADVISORY - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - ARAPAHOE COUNTY – On Saturday, March 26th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will close all lanes of eastbound and westbound Arapahoe Road near Parker Road from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a concrete bridge deck pour.

“This is a process that takes approximately 10 hours to complete, which is more time than we have during an overnight closure,” said CDOT Project Engineer Ed Bullard.  “With Arapahoe Road currently realigned to the north, we will pour the bridge deck over this portion in the morning and reopen Arapahoe Road to traffic around 1 p.m.  From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., we will complete the remainder of the deck pour that is not over traffic.”

During the full closure of eastbound and westbound Arapahoe Road between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m., the following detour routes will be in place:

  • Eastbound Arapahoe Road Detour: Motorists on eastbound Arapahoe Road will take a right onto Chambers Way and drive behind the Cornerstar Mall to Parker Road.
  • Westbound Arapahoe Road Detour: Motorists on westbound Arapahoe Road will take Lewiston Way north around Arapahoe Crossings mall to the traffic signal at Parker Road.

Uniformed traffic control will be used to help move traffic through the traffic signal at Parker Road and Chambers Way as well as the

various shopping centers at the intersection.  Delays are expected and alternate routes are strongly advised.  CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”

The bridge deck pour is part of a project that constructs a grade-separated interchange and the corresponding ramps. When complete, Parker Road will carry over Arapahoe Road and the traffic signal will be removed on Parker Road for free-flowing traffic at the interchange.

Hamon Constructors, Inc. is the contractor for this $32 million project, which should be complete by the end of November 2011.
