Bridge Replacement Underway on Havana Street Near Dartmouth Avenue
The project will demolish and replace the Havana Street bridge over Cherry Creek with one that is wider accommodate a longer deceleration lane on northbound Havana Street to Dartmouth Avenue and eight-foot sidewalks. The original bridge was constructed in 1956 and is one of Colorado’s poor bridges.
Currently, there are two through lanes on southbound Havana Street and three through lanes on northbound Havana Street. During construction, the right lane of northbound Havana Street will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, as the new bridge is constructed from west to east in phases, traffic may be placed in various temporary alignments. During several phases of construction, the speed limit will be reduced to 35 MPH.
While two lanes of northbound and southbound Havana Street will remain open throughout the project, motorists can still expect single lane closures Sunday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Delays are expected and alternate routes are advised.
In addition to lane closures, the bicycle/pedestrian/cart path may also be closed throughout the project due to construction activities. When closed, path users will be detoured north to the signalized intersection at Dartmouth Avenue.
CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Most fines for infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.
