Bridge Girder Installation to Close C-470 Next Week
The work will require various full closures of eastbound and westbound C-470 as well as the ramp from Santa Fe Drive to eastbound C-470.
“This is a huge milestone for this project and folks will soon begin to see the bridge take shape,” said CDOT Project Engineer Scott Smith. “For the safety of the traveling public, it is necessary for us to completely close sections of C-470 at Santa Fe to install the girders.”
To complete the girder installation, the following closures will be in place February 20th through February 24th, weather permitting (please pay close attention to the detour routes for C-470 as they change depending on other closures taking place the same night):
Sunday, February 20th:

Delays are expected throughout the week and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to plan ahead, obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.” Fines for most infractions that occur in the work zone will be doubled.
The work is part of a safety and mobility improvement project that constructs a flyover ramp from southbound Santa Fe Drive (US 85) to eastbound C-470. In addition, the project will construct a new bridge over Erickson Boulevard as well as a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Erickson Boulevard. The bicycle/pedestrian trail will also be reconstructed.
The $26.7 million project is partially funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as well as CDOT and Douglas County. Edward Kraemer and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for this project scheduled to be complete by January 2012.
