Construction Project on US 285 Will Require Various Lane Closures This Week

January 24, 2011 - Denver Metro Colorado/CDOT Region 6 - DENVER—This week, January 24th through January 28th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will conduct various construction activities along US 285 that will result in various lane closures, full closures and ramps closures.

This work is part of the US 285 safety and mobility improvement project between Federal Boulevard and Kipling Parkway.

Motorists can expect the following lane closures this week, weather permitting:

  • Wadsworth Boulevard under US 285:  On Monday and Tuesday, all lanes of northbound and southbound Wadsworth Boulevard under US 285 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for bridge work.  Detour route: Motorists on southbound Wadsworth Boulevard will take westbound US 285 to Kipling Parkway where they will return to eastbound US 285 for access to Wadsworth Boulevard.  Motorists on northbound Wadsworth Boulevard will take eastbound US 285 to Sheridan Boulevard where they will return to westbound US 285 for access to Wadsworth Boulevard.

  • Eastbound US 285 between Estes Street and Pierce Street: On Friday, one lane of eastbound US 285 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow crews to realign eastbound US 285 to the north onto the new westbound US 285 bridge over Wadsworth Boulevard.  The realignment is in preparation for the bridge demolition of the eastbound US 285 bridge over Wadsworth Boulevard.

Major delays are expected on US 285, Federal Boulevard and Wadsworth Boulevard through the week and alternate routes are strongly advised.   CDOT would like to remind motorists to obey all construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”  Fines will be doubled for most infractions that occur in the work zone.

Overall, the $40.1 million design-build project will reconstruct US 285 and replace three bridges among other improvements.

In all, the project will:
