I-70 West Vail Pass – Bridge Work Gets Underway
The work, which is scheduled for completion by December 21, was contracted to Kiewit Western Company for approximately $300,000.
The work involves the replacement of steel bolts at the structure’s east-end, where the horizontal steel girders (support structures) are anchored to the bridge’s concrete abutment (where bridge meets land). New high-strength steel expansion anchors will be installed. Work will also include repair of an expansion joint at the east end.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS - Currently, eastbound I-70 at mile marker 182.5 is reduced to one lane—24/7—while crews place concrete barrier along the shoulder to stabilize the east end in preparation for the work. This outside lane closure will be in place into next week as the work gets underway; further information will be sent early next week regarding the necessity for single eastbound lane closures through the remainder of the project.
