Concrete Rehabilitation Project Underway on Parker Road, Traffic Realignment Scheduled for Monday Night
The project will repair or replace approximately 760 concrete slabs along eight miles of Parker Road and repair the bridges over the Cherry Creek Spillway, Piney Creek and Vaughn Way. The mechanically stabilized earth wall at the Nine Mile Park N Ride Station will also be repaired.
“This is a highly traveled corridor and it is vital that we keep the roadway in good condition to ensure safe and reliable travel,” said CDOT Project Engineer Alan Wagenknecht. “Motorists will experience some delays throughout the project, but we will do our best to minimize traffic impacts as much as possible.”
The first major activity of the project will take place on Monday, October 15th from approximately 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., weather permitting. Crews will be realigning northbound and southbound Parker Road over Piney Creek, which is near Orchard Road, for bridge repairs. To complete the work, two lanes of northbound and southbound Parker Road will be closed. Major delays are expected and alternate routes are strongly advised.
Once traffic is placed in its temporary realignment, three lanes of northbound and southbound Parker Road will remain open, but the lanes will be reduced in width to 10 feet and the speed limit will be reduced to 45 MPH. In addition, one of the turn lanes from westbound Orchard Road to southbound Parker Road will be closed as well as the dedicated right turn lane from eastbound Orchard Road to southbound Parker Road. This configuration will be in place until the bridge repairs are completed in mid-December 2010, weather permitting.
Motorists can also expect various single and double lanes closures in various locations on Parker Road from approximately 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Major delays are expected throughout the project and alternate routes are strongly advised. CDOT would like to remind motorists to pay attention to the construction signs and flaggers and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
Hamon Contractors, Inc. is the contractor of this $2.3 million project, which should be complete by the end of July 2011.
