Project Overview
This project improved traffic signals at four locations throughout metro Denver in late 2016.
The most extensive work was performed at the northbound I-25 off-ramp intersection with Colorado Boulevard. The project added a third direct right turn lane from the northbound I-25 off-ramp to northbound Colorado Boulevard.
Crews also replaced a concrete median island, curb ramps, overhead lighting, signal heads and other signal equipment.
Traffic signal infrastructure to enable advanced vehicle detection was installed at three locations:
- CO 83 and Bayou Gulch Road in Douglas County
- US 85 and CO 67 in Douglas County
- US 40 and Tower Road in the City of Aurora
Detection systems identify vehicles approaching a traffic signal. Data collected from loop detectors are then used for traffic management, which includes adjusting signal timing to meet demand.
